খাগড়াছড়ি জেলার বিভিন্ন এলাকায় ব্যাঙের ছাতার মতো তামাকচুল্লি গড়ে উঠছে। এসব চুল্লি তৈরি ও তামাক শুকানোর কাজে প্রতিবছর অন্তত এক লাখ মণ কাঠ পোড়ানো হচ্ছে। তামাকচুল্লি নিয়ন্ত্রণবিষয়ক কোনো আইন না থাকায় এসব চুল্লি তৈরি ও কাঠ পোড়ানোর কাজে জড়িত ব্যক্তিদের বিরুদ্ধে আইনগত ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া যাচ্ছে না বলে জানা গেছে।
