Promoting company image in the name of CSR

According to the amended tobacco control law, the tobacco companies are disallowed to use their name, symbol etc or promote their respective brands during their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. Yet, using the loopholes and ill tactics and in the name of CSR, the tobacco companies are continuously promoting their company on mass media. In this regard, British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATB) is deploying former government high officials to manipulate different Ministries and government offices on BATB’s favour. As part of their CSR activities, the tobacco companies are providing pure water facility, solar plants and tree plantations of some selected areas of the country. Such activities are mere the ways to conceal their ill tactics to ruin the public health and detrimental effects of tobacco.
