TI & NBR Nexus: Secret Meeting on Tobacco Taxation before Budget

Tobacco industries usually play ill tactics around the budget session. The Cigarette Manufacturers Association of Bangladesh (CMAB) held a secret meeting with National Board of Revenue (NBR). They intervened and urged NBR to grant some special benefits, and to reduce taxes on tobacco products by the government. According to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC); government representatives cannot have any covert meeting with tobacco companies. It is to be noted that a group of ATMA journalists with the help of some colleague journalists got secret information and exposed this secret meeting in between NBR and Tobacco industry.
