Forced to join human chain to protest tax hike on bidi

The bidi worker leaders of Lalmonirhat district organized a human chain on June 8th to protest the tax hike on bidi in this year’s national budget. The bidi workers were collected from their home to the city by a truck. They were told that they will be given 100 taka for their participation but was threatened of their job loss if they do not participate in the human chain. It is to be noted that this type of human chain or protest takes place around the budget session. These are not self motivated by the workers but forced by the Bidi industry owners.
